Tutu
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIOGRAPHY FOR TUTU BEFORE CONSIDERING APPLICATION. TUTU WILL NOT BE PLACED IN A HOME WITH OTHER DOGS, CHILDREN OR CATS.
Tutu's owner left the country and abandoned him with a veterinarian who contacted Corgi Connection of Kansas. In reviewing the records we received with him, it appears Tutu spent much of his precious puppyhood being boarded for days and sometimes weeks. We believe this has attributed greatly to some of Tutu's behavioral issues. We strongly recommend whoever adopts Tutu to find a professional trainer to help with his transition and to gain each other's trust. He has made great strides in the time we have had him but he is still a work in progress.
For the past several weeks, Tutu has been in a foster home with 1 other very docile dog. This is the fosters' information on Tutu:
Tutu is a smart pup with a strong and silly personality. Based on previous foster experiences, we believe he'll have his most success as an only dog with an experienced owner. He's shown dominance and unpredictable resource guarding with other resident dogs, but thrives when all the attention is focused on him.
Tutu appears to have some training in his background and has been fairly quick to show off some basic commands (Sit, Leave It, Place). Training exercises are generally done at meal times with hand-feeding, and he's shown a lot of progress in not resource guarding against the person feeding him.
At the right times, he's excited to be leashed up for walks, but other times he'll get a case of the inside zoomies/circles to demonstrate that he doesn't need a walk to get in a good workout. Sometimes he wants to be a total cuddle bug, while other times he's Mr. Independent. Tutu is crate trained and hasn't had any issues with marking or destroying anything. From his background of being boarded for extended periods of time, he does have some resource guarding issues with food and toys that can be directed at other pets or humans in the home. The resource guarding of food against humans has significantly improved as he's built trust with his foster family.
We are looking for someone who has experience with dogs and lots of patience and love to give this guy. Tutu's adoption fee is $300. He is neutered, micro-chipped; had his teeth cleaned and is current on vaccinations.
