Star Gets Her Christmas Wish
We were beginning to think Star was going to become a permanent resident of Corgi Connection. It seemed no one could see her true personality or was willing to deal with a few "issues." Then came Michael, Jim and their 11-year old corgi Belle. They had inquired about other corgis but when the found out Star was what we call a "true rescue" the family agreed she was the girl for them! Star is living the good life in Salina, KS; enjoying a large fenced yard, daily walks with Michael and Belle at a park literally just across the street and hopefully soon; an occasional day at work. Star first came in to the picture when she was picked up as a stray about 2 years ago and taken to a Kansas City shelter. From there she was adopted and then returned about a year later. They said they couldn't house-train Star. We believe she has some separation anxiety issues which are managable. She just longed to be with someone. After some considerable time in foster care, Star lost 17 pounds and is a much more active girl. She weighed 57 pounds when she came out of the shelter and in to CCK. Her new owners vow to keep her on track and hopefully she'll lose a couple of more pounds, but in the mean time she has a wonderful home. Thank you Jim and Michael for giving this girl the chance she deserved and thank you Belle for being so welcoming to Star. __________________________________________ |

"Stanley Too" Is A Big Hit With New Owner This little guy was picked up as a stray in Missouri. Initially it was thought he might be a corgi-mix but after getting him in to foster care it was decided Stanley is more like a dachshund-yorkie mix. Corgi Connection took Stanley Too because of a little story and if you look on the tab "Where are they now?" you will see one of our early adoptions was a small "corgi-mix" we had named Stanley. Stanley and Stanley Too could just about be brothers. Stanley Too was already named at the shelter so we just added the Too and brought him in to CCK. Even though he's not a corgi, Stanley Too still needed a safe and permanent home.
After some juggling around Stanley has made his home in Minn., with his new mom, Joyce. Stanley was adopted by her daughter who took him from Kansas to his new home where he's made a big impression.
thanks. I hear from my mom about every day now --just having fun with Mr Stanley :) She was getting a little depressed prior to his arrival --sleeping later etc....... but now she has a purpose or reason to wake up and get busy. Im sure he's lovin' companionship all day long. She went to a meeting the other day and I know she just couldn't wait to get home. She commented on how nice it was to have Stanley greet her at the door when she arrived home!
We just knew there was the perfect person for Stanley; especially after reports like these from his foster home: "This little guy's a REAL sweetie! I took him to the pet store on Saturday and he got several compliments about how well behaved he was! I haven't found anything he doesn't like yet! He loves to chase the water hose. He is great with other dogs, cats, goats. He doesn't show any signs of food aggression. He did well with a bath and several car rides. He's starting to learn how to play and getting accustomed to all kinds of new items: rawhide bones, antler chews, chasing the ball and the Frisbee. He is always by my side and is a big cuddler! He is going to make someone a great companion."
Stanley has been vaccinated, neutered, heart-worm tested (negative); had his teeth checked and is on flea/tick prevention. He is micro-chipped and weighs about 20 pounds but could stand to gain a pound or two. He also had a small cyst removed from his side which was tested and declared benign. The University said it was the type of cyst that could have been the result after trauma. We don't know as Stanley can't tell us but we hope he wasn't abused.
Thanks Stephanie for finding Stanley a wonderful home and thanks Joyce for providing that! |

Barry the Big Boy has a Furrever Home With a Big Heart
After A LOT of dedication from Barry's foster mom- Sarah, we decided to send Barry to his forever home weighing in at about 52 pounds. That was after more than 3 months of twice daily walks, a close watch on food intake and pumpkin for a treat.
Barry started out only being able to walk about 3 doors down and back. He is now up to a mile or more and is weighing in at just over 50 pounds.
His new family, Sarah and Jim have made sure to continue Barry's weight loss journey so that he may live a longer healthier life. It didn't take long for Barry to make himself at home with them either.
Here's a bit of Barry's journey: 9-2-11 Upate: Barry is weighing in at just under 55 pounds!!!!! 7-28-11 Update: 1 more pound off Barry - 61. His stamina continues to increase and he enjoys his walks. 7-22-11 Update: 62.2 pounds! Barry weighs 63.6 pounds and his personality continues to evolve as he feels more energetic! He's quite the typical corgi; wanting to chase, be the boss and tell his foster mom all about it. We expect more developments in his personality as he continues to lose weight. UPDATE: Barry weighed 64 pounds on June 29!!!!! When Corgi Connection was contacted by this dog's owners about placing him in rescue, I was reluctant. Again, wanting to concentrate on corgis in shelters, puppy mills and not those living in a nice home. However, space happened to be available and the owners seemed somewhat desperate as they were leaving the state July 1 and just couldn't take their dog with them. I knew Barry was overweight, but I had NO IDEA just how bad it was until we took him out of the car and out of his crate. 70 pounds bad is what it was.
The more I talked with the owners, the more convinced I was that this dog needed rescue all right- rescue from his owners! I am certain if he had remained in their care for another 6-12 months he would have died at the ripe ol' age of 3-1/2. And so Barry came in to Corgi Connection where we have discovered he is a very sweet boy who loves people. TOP PHOTO: Barry's first day in rescue MIDDLE PHOTO: A work in progress

Roxie: Out of the garage and livin' large in the "big city!"
When Corgi Connection was contacted about taking Roxie it didn't sound like too desperate of situation. However after hearing she had already had 2 litters of puppies, just turned 2 and still hadn't been spayed, it seemed a little more urgent. Roxie was still being kept with a male dog that hadn't been neutered! She and the other dog were being kept in the garage in crates when they were outside. When asked why the Roxie wasn't allowed inside he said he really didn't know why as she was a pretty good girl! Roxie quickly proved to be a very sweet girl and caught the eye of Cristina and David in Pittsburgh, PA. Distance didn't seem to matter. Cristina just knew Roxie was the dog for her. After a 2-day drive: this was Cristina's first report: We got home last night and we can now officially say she was a good girl the entire ride! Today i took her for a walk around the neighborhood and she was a super good girl....there was a bird in a driveway and she did lunge towards it a bit, but with hardly any pull...it then flew away and when i called her name she actually came over to continue her walk...she sniffed everything and was a very happy girl when we came back home.
I also took her line and put it around a tree while I did some stuff in the garden and she was a *very* happy girl....it's really nice here today and she was very content to sit in the sun and let the wind blow through her fur...she was smiling pretty much the entire time...it was a little ridiculous how cute she was Update: today roxie started playing! she's been kind of playing with toys since last thursday-ish but hasn't had a full on doggie play session either with herself or one of us...until today! after her walk she was jumping and running with me and even fetched a ball! she was so happy and energetic. CCK is so happy for Roxie and her new family. Now she gets to know what it's liked to be a loved member of the family and she even has her own e-mail to stay in touch with CCK!
Thank you David and Cristina for opening your hearts and home to this terrific little corgi!

Abby: living the high life in the country
Abby (far right) was found as a stray and taken to a shelter. Corgi Connection was contacted to take her and couldn't believe she was claimed. Abby had very obviously been a house dog and one that was "loved" a little too much. She weighed 46 pounds and her toenails were terribly overgrown. After having her spayed, brought up to date on vaccinations, nails trimmed, heartworm tested and other basic care, Abby was placed in foster care and isn't going anywhere.
Abby's mom knew before the end of the first week that she wasn't going to let this beautiful girl go. "She just fit so well," Wendy said of adopted Abby. Abby joins 9 -year old Jake, Cat and some ducks on several acreas where she takes daily walks in the meadow; goes swimming at a friend's house, plays Captain of the riding lawn mower sitting on it while the lawn is being mowed and gets to pretend she is the boss!
All of this activity is helping her lose some weight so she will live a longer and healthier life!

Chief: Out of an outside kennel and into a home!
This fantastic, cuddly, handsome boy didn't even make it to the list as being adoptable. His foster mom and dad fell in love with him on day one. Chief, or Chiefy and he's fondly referred to, is what we in the rescue business call a "failed foster!" But in this case, failure is good - except for the fact that you sometimes lose a great foster home because of it.
Recent visits with Chief shows him lovin' life and being around people. Chief started his life with his first family at about the age of 8 weeks and was at first an inside dog. Children and other priorities forced the family to move Chief to an outside dog run where he has been at least the past 2 years of his life. Chief is now 4-1/2 With an absolutely adorable personality and a rich red coat, Chief is just about impossible not to fall in love with. He really just wanted to be with someone and now he has Gale, who takes him to work frequently; Kenny, who tried to resist and 3 dog siblings, one of which is a Cardigan Corgi - Molly and 4 felines. AND he can sleep on the bed if he wants! He gets along well with his new buddies but REALLY enjoys him mom and dad! CCK couldn't be happier for this dog. Thanks Gale and Kenny for opening your hearts and home to yet another rescue!

Kirby and his long distance journey from W. Kansas to N.D.
CCK knew when Kirby came in to it's rescue he wouldn't be in rescue for long. Picked up as a stray in W. Kansas, it's still a mystery as to why anyone would have let this handsome boy out of their sight. Kirby came to the shelter with blue paint over his coat; perhaps part of a 4th of July celebration - who knows. While he was neutered (has been since) Kirby seemed to be very familiar with being inside. He also did well with his foster siblings. Camille knew her corgi, Dalla (on the left) needed a buddy and she fell in love with Kirby. It didn't matter she lived 3 states to the north; she WANTED Kirby. So a 9-hour drive was made to Kansas where Camille quickly confirmed she had made the right choice for a new addition to her family. Kirby has adjusted well to his new home and sister. Kirby was brought up to date on vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped, heartworm test and put on preventative in addition to flea and tick preventative before he went to his new home. He was also given several baths to try and remove the blue paint but it simply had to wear off. Thanks Camille for opening your heart and home to this once homeless boy. A big hug for literally going out of your way to get him too!

Roo - A Short Sweet Life - to the Rainbow Bridge 7-19-11
Rescue work can be so heart-breaking but when you have a successful rescue and then lose the dog to an awful accident; it is particularly tough.
Roo - who was a Corgi-Heeler mix born to Maddie didn't even get listed on the Corgi Connection website or petfinder because there were so many wanting her. Unfortunately Roo's life was not meant to be and she crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge after being hit by a car. This is the first loss for one of Corgi Connection's adoptees and I feel like I've lost one of my own.

Out of the Shelter and in to a Wonderful Home - Meet Kevin
The result of a divorce, Kevin, his real name, found himself at a shelter. After having been a much-wanted pet, Kevin was banished to being only an outdoor dog and apparently was attacked by the neighbor's dogs. The owner chose to surrender Kevin to the shelter after he had all ready been through "the system" once. Kevin was a bit puzzling at first but who wouldn't be after what he had been through. We was uncertain and sometimes lashed out at those around him. First-time corgi owners, but not new to short dogs, Amber and Lee fell in love in Kevin. They had bassets and dachshunds but Amber just knew Kevin was the dog for them. Even Daisy, their senior basset seems to think so!
Kevin is the sweetest, best-behaved dog I have ever owned, and we absolutely ADORE him!!! I've been reading a book on Corgis, and apparently they are generally playful and energetic. However, Kevin's quiet, gentle nature is a perfect fit in our home. And Daisy is also learning to appreciate his gentle demeanor. Yesterday a friend brought over his pugs, and Kevin played with them in the back yard for awhile. But they were too rambunctious for his taste, and he was happy to come back indoors and sit with me. Right now he is sleeping on the cool tile floor in our entryway. I gave Kevin a bath this morning, and he tolerated it well. I will have to get a rubber mat so he feels more secure in the tub . Sarah did a great job teaching Kevin to walk on a leash , and we haven't encountered any difficulties. I'm so pleased that I can take Daisy and Kevin on walks together! Kevin is eating well, but is picky about his treats (as Sarah had mentioned) . He definitely enjoys dried chicken strips, and I'm working with him on "sit" and "down". Kevin is such a smart little boy! He figured out how to use the dog door in a day! I'm taking vacation tomorrow so we can enjoy another 3-day weekend together. He prefers sleeping on our bed at night, and I enjoy cuddling with him. I was reading that Corgis enjoy the water, so we may get a little wading pool he can play in. He enjoys following me around when I'm watering the flowers, cooking or whatever. And Kevin enjoys watching the street from our front door. If anybody walks by, he lets me know! I just wanted to let you know that Kevin has brought us even more joy than we'd imagined! Lee absolutely dotes on him, and I'm not much better. He is such a darling little boy. Kevin was truly meant to be in our family, and I am so grateful to both of you for helping us find each other. " Amber and Lee; we think you're just darling for giving Kevin such a wonderful home. _____________________________________________

Maddie - No More Living Outside
Maddie is a 2-year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi that had 6 puppies earlier this year. For whatever reason the family decided to give away all the puppies and Maddie for free. When the family first got Maddie she was an indoor dog and for some reason was banished to the outside. In order to ensure Maddie's future a concerned citizen stepped in and took Maddie and the last remaining puppy. Corgi Connection was contacted about Maddie and the rest is history. She is a very sweet dog with people and other pets. It didn't take long for applications to come in for Maddie and after careful consideration, Maddie is now living in Sioux City, IA with her new "brother" - Boo and parents LeRoy and Shirlee. They made the long drive from Northern Iowa to NC Kansas just to get this little girl and give her a wonderful home. Maddie's owners are just crazy about her as she and Boo keep them enterained with their antics. Twice daily walks keep everyone healthy and happy as well. Boo is also somewhat of a rescue having been given up by his previous owners and very under socialized. Thank you Shirlee and LeRoy for providing Maddie with a safe, loving home and your committment to both of your dogs. The pup, a corgi-heeler mix was also taken in by Corgi Connection and adopted before she was even posted on the website by Christine and Chris who had previously applied for a corgi through CCK. Her name is Roo and she is living in Southcentral Kansas where she has 3 other siblings and lots of room to run.

Katie: In the Special Home She Deserves
Katie came in to the shelter with a laceration to her throat that literally allowed water to run out a hole in her throat when she drank. The local Humane Society had her treated to the best of its finances and contacted Corgi Connection to place her in to rescue. After about a week it became clear that Katie's injury was going to require additional treatment as the extent of damage had never really been determined. Three veterinarians' opinions later it was decided to take Katie to Kansas State University to a soft-tissue specialist. She underwent surgery to repair the whole in the back of her mouth which led out her throat and have her esophagus repaired. She came through with flying colors and no further medical care is expected for her injury. Katie is now a part of the family with Harold and Jackie in Ponca City, Ok., and their rescue corgi, Flash, who is now Katie's best friend and miniature pom, Pooh Bear who is probably wondering what all the rukus is about! Katie's health is good and her attitude even better. She is finally getting to be the loved pet she should have been all along. Thank you Jackie and Harold for opening your hearts and home to this very special girl! Here are early reports from Katie's new family:
Well, we are sure she is the right dog for us! We feel that we are very blessed to have Katie, Flash, and Pooh Bear. Our little family is complete!

Sophie - Given up by her owner
We still can't figure out why anyone would give up this beautiful sweet girl. But that doesn't matter now as Sophie has a constant companion with her new owner, Marth, who just retired from a career in nursing. This sweet girl was turned in to the shelter by her owner. The more information shelter staff tried to get from the owner, the more confused they became, so CCK doesn't know a lot about Sophie. So far she is doing well in her foster home; getting along with the other dog and cat. We were given information Sophie is food aggressive. We have not seen that yet, but doesn't mean it won't happen. She is being watched closely for any such issues. Sophie just really wants to attach to someone. It's obvious her world has been turned upside down and she needs someone to reassure her. She is about 5 years old and really enjoys cuddling with someone. She has done well in the house and sleeps in her crate at night with no problem. She is a bit of a dominant little girl, but what Corgi isn't? Sophie is current on vaccinations and is on heartworm preventative. Sophie is adjusting to her new home and we're sure she's having no problem adjusting to unlimited attention. Thank you Martha for opening your home and heart to this deserving girl!

Introducing the formerly shy Corgi now known as Danny!
"He's so adorable, I could not love him more! That's the latest report on this handsome boy from his new home. Once called Ruben, this puppy mill boy is now Danny and is making his home in Austin, Tx. But that's not the best news: Danny is joining a family that has previously adopted from Corgi Connection, joining another former puppy mill corgi, Ruby, now called Roo! Danny will also have 2 other dogs to learn from: Tippy and the ever-so-gentle, Sugar. A fellow rescuer was saving basset hounds at a dog auction when this petite Corgi came up for auction. No one was bidding on him and they said he would be euthanized if not purchased, so the rescuer bought him for $5. Ruben is a timid male and only weighs about 18 pounds. Ruben is 6 years and came with all his "papers."
Here's an update on Dan: He is doing great. He still sometimes will look off into space and think about life, and I like to think he's remembering you. He is such a good dog! He has taken some steps back regarding housebreaking, but I am so pleased with how he behaves, comes to his name, and loves to be cuddled. He climbs into my lap corgi style and snuggles up for hugs. He loves to go on looooooooooong walks. I thought he would be afraid of all the trees and bushes, but he doesn't mind them. He seems to really like his name because he smiles when he hears it, and comes over right away. He and the others get along great! Mostly, he likes to lay in his little bed and be still. But the world around him is moving fast, and I think pretty soon he will want to catch up with it. Grace, CCK thanks you from the bottom of its heart for opening your heart to this special boy. Thanks also to your great mother Alison for making the trip with you, allowing us to see Roo once again! CCK has no doubt Danny has a very bright future.

Rodeo - a Foster Failure It's a Good Thing!
Rodeo will be staying with his foster family! Thanks Sarah and Derrick for all you have done! Rodeo was turned in to the animal shelter by his owners who claimed he did not get along with the resdient Chihuahua. He did absolutely fine with two other corgis, so must have been the Chihuahua's fault :-0 Rodeo is doing extremely well in foster care. In fact so well that his foster parents are keeping him. Rodeo has proven to be housebroke; giving some indication when he needs to go outside; playing well in the house and enjoying his toys. He loves to be around "his" people. He can be a cuddler, a player and a character, all in one.We were told he is a year old, but have no other information about him so he is starting with a clean slate! We weighs about 25 pounds. Rodeo has been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and micro-chipped. Given Rodeo's coloring with the ticking on his legs and his stature, he is probably a corgi-heeler mix. I have one personally and she is a terrific dog; a bit stubborn at times, but such a character. I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Miss Tillie from Dodge City now in Loveland, CO
Tillie ended up at the shelter in Dodge City, KS. After some terrific foster care by Kristyn and Darren, Tillie is now at home Here are first reports on Tillie from her new family (March 2011)
We are amazed. It seems as though Tillie has always been here. She and Oso began frapping just about an hour after we arrived home. This morning they had so much fun running outside, they wore themselves out. Just after the kids went upstairs to get ready for bed, the dogs started playing with each other again this evening. All is well! She also picked up the meal time "sit & release" quickly. I believe she has been the easiest dog to train. Thank you for meeting us. Please share with Kristyn and Darren our appreciation as well. She is just fabulous! All is well here in Loveland. Everyone is still getting along. Tillie has so much energy that we are working hard to keep her busy with daily walks, play and several chew toys. Tillie WAS a little timid upon first introductions with people, but that didn't last long as she quickly came around to be everyone's friend. She is a petite Corgi, weighing less than 25 pounds and she has a longer "stub" than most corgis; just gives her more personality. Thank you Phoebe, Dave and family for giving this girl a safe and loving home. CCK looks forward to many reports to follow.

KC - Now at Home In Maryland With Her New Buddy - Graham
KC made a safe trip and is now at home in Maryland where she has a new friend, Graham (right). Thank you for all the terrific inquiries regarding this little girl. It was a very difficult decision. Here's the latest about KC: KC is an angel. I have never had a dog that was so smart, minded so well, and is so happy. I'll take another just like her. Just tell us when! :) Two weeks ago, we were at the beach. It was a sunny warm day, KC and I went for our normal run on the beach. She was running here and there. We headed down to the water and a wave came in. She ran through the surf barking and having a great time. My thoughts were great, a wet, sandy, salty dog. The next wave came in and dove into the water. I started to yell for her to come to me because I have never known a Corgi that could swim. I have heard stories of such feats, but none of mime could even float. She paddled in, so proud of herself. She is quite the athlete. We had a Salon Concert last Sunday evening. A friend of ours was dry running piano music that she will playing in Taiwan, New York, and Univeristy of MD. KC seemed to enjoy the music she laid and listen and was happy to be part of the crowd. Quite the dog, happy everywhere. I can't say thank you enough.
KC's initial report went like this:
Are you sure KC is 2? :) She is the most energetic little girl. I will need to take her for extra walks on her own. Graham is fine on the walks, but she doesn't tire out. I took KC to the beach yesterday. She chased birds, ran down to the waves and then raced back as the waves came in, and picked up shells and carried them round. The beach is great (here). There are 14 miles with almost no one is ever there even on the busiest weekends. KC was able to play and I don't have to worry. This sweet little corgi was found in SW Kansas at a client's home of a vet clinic. The client brought the dog into the vet clinic and they contacted Corgi Connection who agreed to take her in to rescue after no owner could be located. KC turned out to be a little darling. She gets along with other dogs, cats and even kids. She does well in the house and appears to be house-trained. KC is also quite the cuddler and craves attention. Thanks to Jeff and Bob for opening their hearts and home to this once homeless girl! __________________________________________ |

Benny C - ADOPTED!!!
Check out the adventures of Benny living a new life on Facebook under Benny Corgipants! What a wonderful way to start off the new year with a new home for Benny C! Corgi Connection and foster parents, Susan and Bert couldn't be happier for Benny's future. He has a terrific home in Salina, KS with Peg and Bill, their 2 cats and a cockatiel. They are such a caring couple. Peg said as soon as she saw Benny on the internet she just knew that was the dog for them. Here's the latest on Benny C:
He is doing amazing. I was bragging about well-behaved he was earlier in the week. However, I think he is feeling more comfortable, because he has been a little rowdy later this week. Tuesday or Wednesday, he found the space under the chain link where the neighborhood cats have been coming in and squeezed under the fence and whoo hoo! he found the candy store on the other side (cat poop!) and began gorging himself! Ha, ha, little stinker, he didn't want me stopping him. Anyway, I got the gaps temporarily closed up and the fence will get some work come nicer weather. We have been working some on kisses and when we went in, of course that was when he was wanting to give them.e...yu!
He sheds, he snores, he farts, but we think we'll keep him. :) A harsh dose of reality hit Corgi Connection of Kansas the week of Nov. 8 when it was asked to take a corgi from a puppy mill. All we were told was it was an older male with a nose/lip injury that was old. Imagine the shock when we received a dog with half its nose and a rather large piece of its lip missing! It was disturbing at first to say the least. Let it be clear however that he is perfectly capable of eating, drinking and chewing. He has no special physical needs. This beautiful sable male corgi has been named Benny C, in honor of a childhood friend who had a facial deformity and went on to serve our county and lead a very productive life. Benny C was injured when he was just a puppy by an adult dog. The breeder told authorities he was not treated for the injury. _____________________________________________ |

Albert - Now Herbie: From Puppy Mill of 1,500 Dogs - Now in New Jersey
UPDATE: Albert has completely stolen our hearts. He is the biggest love bug and ham. Everyone who meets him immediately says two things about him: "He's gorgeous" and "He's big." Albert is large for a corgi and will probably top out around 35 pounds. He is learning to play with the other dogs and with toys on occasion. He loves his dog bed and going for walks. He can be stubborn at times if he doesn't want to do something but does not react aggressively at all! This big handsome boy came from the same puppy mill as Benny C. He was one of only a few dogs that survived. More than 1,200 dogs had to be euthanized from the mill due to health issues. Albert is a drop-dead gorgeous sable male, about 5 years old. He is people friendly; getting along fine with 4 others dogs in his foster home. It would be best if he were in a home without cats as he is quite obsessive over them. Albert needs a fenced yard. He loves to just hang outside and I would not trust him from wandering off. He has done fine getting bathed and being brushed. Albert is enjoying life as an indoor dog. I would consider him house-trained now as he will go to the door to go out and he now willingly follows the other dogs outside.

Rudy, now Lando - - ADOPTED!!!
Mark and Claire had all aready opened their heart and home to one rescue dog, a border collie named Solo. They wanted Solo to have a friend and fell in love with Rudy - except for his name. Following the Star Trek theme, Rudy is now Lando and doing quite well in in new digs. Here's the latest about Lando from his family: (June 2011) We just wanted to give you an update on Lando. He is doing great and every day he gets even better. He gets along with every other dog / animal he meets. He is much more comfortable around people and is definitely coming out of his shell. So much so that the only problem we are having with him is barking, not being overly shy. Note: Lando's family is moving from Kansas to Kentucky this summer. Previously: Lando is doing very well. He loves his bed and the kennel is definitely his safe spot. He spends most of his time following us around the house and loooves treats. He is definitely a talker, but he crashed and burned last night and we didn't hear a peep from him at all. Can't wait until he relaxes a little more and really comes into his own. Second update: Lando continues to adjust to his new home and daily schedule. He has gotten much more comfortable around us and the cats and continues to supervise Solo in all his exploits. We've even discovered that he loves to steal Solo's toys and put them in his crate when no one is looking! The funniest moment though was day before yesterday when the contractors next door were out working on the new house. Lando walked right up to the fence, stared at them a moment, barked his head off and then ran to hide behind Solo like "Can't get back at me behind this big guy!" It was super cute. He is still a little skittish about being touched when we're standing up and moving around, but he comes right up for petting time when we are sitting on the couch and can't get enough. We can't wait to see what the next week brings as he relaxes even more Lando is about 5 years old and was picked up as a stray in SE Kansas. A young woman was kind enough to take him in and keep him until rescue could help.
Thanks Mark and Claire for loving Lando! |

Darling Dharma has a new home for the holidays!
This little girl drew lots of attention when she got posted on Petfinder and she will continue to get it in her new home in Omaha, NE with Kit and Meghan. Darling Dharma. That best describes this sweet little girl. Just a year old, Dharma was purchased from a breeder in March 2010. The owner quickly found out that having a dog costs money AND TIME. In addition to costs and time, the landlord wanted additional rent money. Here's the latest on Dharma (March 2011):
She's getting lots of love here and lots of play time. She still plays a little rough but we're working to train her. She loves everyone she meets-just a few days ago she met her first UPS man! Oh boy! He was very gracious and told her hello and gave her an ear scratch. She pouted for the rest of the night after he was gone :) "where's the extra human? Oh no! Less hands for tummy rubs!" _____________________________________________

Omar, Omart, Oscar - call him Madoc please!
After much confusion about this little guy's name it's official - he's Madoc and he's living with Carol and Harold in Manhattan, KS. Madoc was a legendary Welsh Prince and we think this one is too! Madoc's owners had this to say about him recently: As one of your "families" Harold and I just want to thank you for all you do. Who knows what would have happened to Madoc if you hadn't taken him in. He's such a wonderful lil guy and we just love him. He gets to playing with a chewie or one of his toys and it's a blast to watch him run around growling and having a good time. We just love having him and I think he is happy with us! What a petite little guy Madoc is! CCK knew very little about Madoc except that he had been in a rather antiquated shelter for more than a month near the Colorado/Kansas boarder! A wonderful volunteer from the shelter delivered him for CCK. While he is petite, Madoc is probably about 5 years old. In some Corgi circles he is what is referred to as a "doodlebug" - a Corgi weighing less than 25 pounds. In typcial Corgi fashion he enjoys his toys, chewies and going for walks. He has a beautiful back yard to explore and some neighbor dogs to "talk" to now and then. The volunteer at the shelter did report Madoc was very friendly and sweet. She wasn't kidding. When we got him he immediatlely wanted to be with someone. Madoc has been neutered and vaccinated. He was treated for whipworms and has been healthy since. Corgi Connection had his teeth checked also and no issues were noted. He is also micro-chipped.
Happy Holidays Madoc!

Daisy - At Home in Houston
Daisy had a VERY Happy Thanksgiving because she was adopted! After kind of a rough start in her young life, being re-home twice and ending up at a shelter, Daisy is living the high life in Houston, TX. She has a big brother now, Toby, who she seems quit patient with given his age. Daisy's owners, Gail and Nick and their son, Nathan, made the drive to Kansas to get this gorgeous girl. Here's the report on Daisy just after a couple of days: She is totally fine - and making us laugh often. last night she discovered ice - I had put some in dogs water dish - when she came back to kitchen from a drink she had a cube in her mouth - when she dropped it, slid on the tile floor and she ran after it - then chewed it - and seemed to like the crunchy feeling. went back for two more cubes and ran up the stairs a few steps to her chosen perch to chomp away on the ice. hilarious - I can't think how it could hurt her. She and Toby are touching noses now and then. and she has seriously decided she is a lap and sofa dog. Nathan and she walked 2 miles yesterday - she seemed tired but also very happy. no accidents and very good on the leash for all three of us. the trip down was long for her - actually for all of us - but she seems very settled in at this point - after less than two days.

Ivan - Abandoned No Longer - Adopted!
Ivan has found a home where he is loved and needed. Rebecca and Cameron have an older dog, Bailiwick who is going blind. They wanted another dog to perhaps keep Bailiwick active AND help her. It seems, despite Ivan's youth, he understands Bailiwick has special needs and respects her. He's even learning to give space to their special needs cat - Kiwi! Keep up the good work Ivan. You're a doll. Here's the latest on Ivan who has become somewhat of a protector it seems:
I don't know if Ivan had ever seen snow before, but the two times it has snowed, he just goes nuts! The first snow fall was absolutely comical because he kept bouncing around and looking at the ground. hen we started to play ball. Well instead of leaping over the snow drifts, muscle man Ivan was trying to plow right through them, and he was having a blast. He started to eat it when he noticed Bailiwick licking the snow. The second snow fall produced just as much fun for Ivan, but with a new twist...Ice...He has landed on his rump so many times, but he keeps trying to get up and run across a sheet of ice. Its like watching Bambi. We are so grateful Rebecca and Cameron opened their home and hearts to Ivan!____________________________________________

Dodger - whoops ...err... Boomer, isn't going anywhere - his foster parents adopted him!
Update: Got to see the little Boomer over Thanksgiving weekend. What a joy he is and handsome! He and fellow Corgi Connection brother, Hendrix are best play buddies. Dodger, now Boomer went in to foster and after just 2 weeks is staying - furrever! Erin and Nick along with their first rescue Corgi, Hendrix are adopting Boomer as their own. "He just fits," they said of the young Corgi. The boys are doing great. Both are completely kennel trained, have their own fenced in backyard and they constantly fight like brothers. Also Boomer loves to irritate Sally (our cat). We have also enjoyed watching Boomer grow up from a small puppy and become the great "talker" he has become. He is now quite the chatterbox and every chance he gets he is trying to talk to us or Hendrix. All and all we have been very happy with the transition from one to two dogs. Having two dogs has been a lot of fun. We look forward to getting together again with you this summer to show them off to everybody. This little guy was picked up as a stray in Western Kansas and is now with Corgi Connection. His foster family just loves him and he does will with their corgi, Hendrix. The top photo was taken at the shelter from where Boomer came and the bottom photo is Boomer at HOME - his furr-ever home! (Looks like he might be channel surfing!) Thanks Nick and Erin for opening your home and hearts to this handsome boy!

Raider - Recovered and making himself at home UPDATE: Raider went to his new home Nov. 5 but not before making a final impression on The Daily Corgi where he won the Halloween costume contest. Thank you Jim, Paula and Thumper for welcoming Raider into your home. Here's Raider's first report from his new family: What a great dog. He is fitting in very well. We give Thumper dental treats and Raider has discovered the container they are kept in so now he comes up to the container and does his little sitting on his hind legs and begging routine to get one. He sleeps very well in bed and has been for a walk around the new neighborhood. We have gone off and left both he and Thumper with the run of the house for several hours at a time and no problems. He is still getting use to the fenced back yard and the neighbor hood dogs barking but he does has a voice. I will keep sending you updates and thanks again, he is what were looking for. Raider had surgery Sept. 24 and the leg wrap was removed Oct. 1. All indications are the lump was a lipoma, which is a fatty tumor. It was rather involved with the structure of his leg, but the veterinarian believed he was able to remove the entire tumor. The mass was sent off for testing at Kansas State University and came back as a fatty tumor. Corgi Connection was contacted by a couple a few months ago about their 8-year old Pembroke male corgi, Raider. Seems Raider has taken a disliking to their 3 year old son and they fear for the child's safety AND Raider's happiness. Raider had a lump appear on his leg a while back and the couple had the lump removed. It has grown back and about this time I was contacted about trying to find a new home for the dog after the couple got the dog medically treated. She told me the vet said amputation would be the least expensive option and they were going to have it done when they had enough money saved up and then try to find him a new home. I asked the woman if she would put that off and consider sending me Raider's medical records so that I might get another opinion and see if we could avoid amputating Raider's right hind leg AND get his medical expenses paid for while trying to find him a new home. ______________________________________________ |

Little Leo - the lone survivor
The latest on Leo (Dec. 2010): He is doing great and having lots of fun playing with his big brother Simba. They are like two peas in a pod. Leo follows him around and does everything he does. He had his 3-month check up with the heart surgeon, who says he is doing great. An ultrasound revealed that his kidneys have an abnormal architecture, which may be renal dysplasia. From what I've read that is pretty serious, but I'm just going to take each day as it comes with the little guy and give him lots of love. He has no symptoms right now, but please remember him in your prayers. He is a very happy boy. Here are a few recent pictures. (bottom photo) I wish I could get a good one of him standing so you could see how long he is! He's probably about 20 pounds now in weight, but very trim. I love him so much!!! As many have read, a breeder surrendered seven pembroke welsh Corgis to Corgi Connection in June. The breeder stated he no longer wanted to breed Corgis, but he was going to continue with other breeds. Of the 7 dogs - 5 females and 2 males - 2 of the females were pregnant. A gracious Corgi rescuer in Wichita, KS took one of the pregnant dogs who delivered 7 pups; 6 of which survived. The other female, Sadie (see below for her adoption) wasn't even a year old when she was bred. However it was still a surprise when she delivered 4 puppies less than a week after getting her from the breeder who said they wouldn't be due until sometime in July! Of the 4 puppies, only one survived - Leo. While it was speculated the rest of the puppies probably had heart defects, Leo seemed to be a happy healthy boy. So much so he was adopted by a woman in San Diego. Upon taking Leo to her local veterinary it was discovered Leo had a heart defect also. That was the bad news, the good news was the vet felt it was very correctable and would give Leo and normal, healthy life. Karen, who adopted Leo, didn't think twice about having the life-saving surgery done for Leo who has since recovered and is a normal 4+ month old Corgi. Karen has such a big heart. She went through quite a bit to get Leo and yet had to go through even more to keep him. Corgi Connection is indebted to Karen's love of the breed and her willingness to ensure Leo's health and happiness. Thanks Karen and puppy hugs to Leo! ______________________________________________ |

Jackson - A Young Stray from Oklahoma - ADOPTED!
Jackson was turnd in to a shelter in Oklahoma as a stray. With the help of Corgi Connection's Faiery Corgi Furio and Cooper, Jackson was rescued from the shelter and brought to Kansas. It only took a short time for Jackson to catch the eye of Becky, Gregg and family who were looking for a buddy for their corgi-mix, Oreo. He had recently lost his buddy and Becky felt he needed a new friend. A little more than 24 hours after filling out the application Jackson was making his way around their yard and home. After being welcomed by Oreo, Jackson is now officially a resident of Topeka, KS. Thank you Becky, Gregg and family for opening your home and hearts to a dog that once didn't have a home! Jackson and Oreo are still getting to know each other but early reports are promising the two will become buddies. Your journey is over Jackson - you are home! ________________________________________ |

Sammie - Little Lost Dog now in Big TEXAS! ADOPTED!
Sammie was picked up as a stray in the far southwest corner of Kansas, 4 hours from Corgi Connection of Kansas. Very thin, Sammie was diagnosed with a couple of different worms and was immediately treated. Thank goodness he was heartworm negative. Sammie quickly blossomed once he was in foster care and immediately caught the attention of Chris and Melaine of Athens, TX. Melanie knew the minute she saw Sammie that he would fit their family. So much so that they were willing to drive to Kansas and get the new addition to their family. So far the report is excellent: He is WONDERFUL!!!!! The girls were SO SURPRISED!!!! He did great traveling and last night at the house. He hasn't made a sound. Has been quiet as a mouse and very calm. The girls can't wait to play outside with him today. THANK YOU!!! He went on a car ride today. He did fine!!! He went with us to pick the girls up from school and stop by the vet to weigh. He was almost 23lbs. More running and playing.
Thank you Chris and Melanie for opening your hearts and home to a rescue dog and a big thanks to Chelsea and Daniel who fostered Sammie, housetrained him and taught him manners. ___________________________________________

Sparky - Safe from life in a breeding kennel
ADOPTED!
Corgi Connection couldn't be happier for Sparky and his new home. It was a long road for this beautiful boy and he is making up for lost time! Sparky is now home in Lawrence, KS along with his two corgi siblings; Rocky and Bella. Thanks so much Sharon and Monte for opening your hearts and home to this truly special boy! Here's the latest on Sparky in his new home: Sparky had his first FRAP in the house yesterday, tearing around the couch, down the hall, up the stairs, into the bathroom and back down the stairs to do it all again. Rocky was trying his best to keep up but was left in the dust. When Sparky was done, he jumped up on the couch next to me and went to sleep. He looked so cute, I shared my blanket with him. Sparky got to spend a day at the doggies spa; an oatmeal bath, nail trim, combing and a handsome Halloween scarf! That's MR. Sparky now! A true gentleman is what Sparky's foster home had to say about him. Sparky is one of 7 dogs that were surrendered to Corgi Connection of Kansas by a breeder. He is 1 of only 2 males in the group. Sparky turned 6 on May 21 and he is learning what being a pet is really about! Top Photo: Sparky on the couch; his favorite place after a day at the spa. Middle: While in foster care; resting his previous worries away. Bottom: Watching his favorite television show - would someone please give him the remote control?

Rookie - a Stray Cardigan - Bound for Agility!
ADOPTED!
As I type this the night of Sept. 11, Rookie is on his way home to Wisconsin! Rookie's new owner drove all the way from Wisconsin to Kansas to get this special guy and he has 2 corgi siblings - Sierria and Auggie. Both are Pembrokes Corgis and Joyce is active in agility. Rookie will be introduced to the sport of agility and we're hoping for great things out of him! Nevertheless, Joyce immediately took to Rookie and CCK thanks her for taking in a rescue to work with. CCK also thanks Sarah, Rookie's foster mom who kept him safe, happy and healthy until he found his forever home. Thank bunches! This was Sarah's first foster and she's turned out to be a great asset to CCK. Check back for progress on Rookie's new career! There is much debate about this boy on the Corgi rescue pages as to whether or not he is a Cardigan Corgi or a Corgi-mix. Corgi Connection had a Cardigan Corgi "person" look at Rookie and she believes he is indeed from the Cardigan family. The majority believe he is a Cardigan but he's just not as bulky as most Cardigans. Remember: purebred does not mean well-bred. Since he was picked up as a stray no one will every know, not even Rookie, but he's a happy boy anyway! He loves his play time and he likes to cuddle. He is probably about a year old, so he's full of energy. ________________________________ |

Jackson - Found a Home!
Jackson is going to stay right where he's been the past few months - with his foster; now owner Dawn and her 2 other corgis and labrador! Jackson does so well with Dawn's gang and seems to fit in just like he belonged there! Thanks Dawn for opening your heart to this boy!
Jackson is another of the 7 dogs surrendered by a breeder to Corgi Connection. What a pleasant surprise he's turned out to be!
Jackson just turned 4 on July 26 and his birthday present was to get out of the breeding situation and be a spoiled corgi! He is experiencing so many new things with foster mom Dawn and her gang.
He's learning to be a good boy inside; play with other dogs; enjoy people and life in general! He's even had a couple of short FRAPs - surprising himself as well as his foster mom!
He loves to go places and while he can still be skittish at times he's gaining more confidence every day. _____________________________________________

Sadie - ADOPTED!
This beautiful 1-year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi is Sadie. She was surrendered by a breeder along with 6 other dogs and was pregnant at the time. She was born 6-1-2009 and that was her first and LAST litter. She is now living the good life in San Francisco with her new best friend - Harry (upside down in top photo). Thanks Amy and Nanette for your determination to bring this wonderful dog in to your lives! Thank you everyone for all the interest in this special girl. Her lone pup, Turbo, has also been adopted and will be living in San Diego! Thanks Karen. Here's a note about Sadie from her new people: (March 2011) Have I mentioned we love Sadie through and through? Today is rainy and she is not a big fan. Harry is an all weather boy. But Sadie walks along looking up at us and blinking in the rain drops. Could just eat her. We are working on her annual employee review and she exceeds expectations in every category. Her initial report:
We are closing in on the hour we will have been with Sadie for one week. Here is what she has accomplished in that time: _______________________________________________

Hoot - Adopted - Now Maddie
Maddie is living on Long Island, NY with a new Corgi brother - Jaxson - also a rescue Corgi from Oklahoma and some visiting friends. Here is what her new family has to say about her: She is doing well, and seems to be settling into her new life on Long Island. She went to the beach for the first time last week. The water, crabs, and sea weed were particularly fun for her! Jaxson and her, love to run along the beach together... This beautiful girl just turned a year old June 1. She is 1 of 7 dogs that were surrendered to Corgi Connection of Kansas by a breeder. Luckily she had not been bred yet like her sibling, Sadie. Here's what her foster mom has to say about her after just about 2 weeks: Very sweet. Sits every time she comes to see you. LOVES to run and run in circles and roll in stuff. In a field if you call she comes running right up, unless she is rolling in stuff. In the house she is more watchful of things, especially doors. Good kisser. Has put on a few pounds and is quite pretty. Energetic, busy girl.

Daisy- now Tipper - ADOPTED!
We just knew someone would see the beauty in this corgi-heeler mix and take her in to their home. Well Caitlin and Matt saw her and they even have her "sister" - Mu, also a heeler-mix! Tipper and Mu fill the house with EARS! There's also a brother, Murphy, who puts up with the 2 girls now. Here's the latest on Tipper with her new family:
She is doing fabulous!! Me and Tipper had our last beginner's obedience class last night and not only did we pass, we got the TOP SCORE!! I am so incredibly proud of her! We'll probably wait a little bit to take the next class so I can work on her focus a bit more, but she did really great in class. I think it really helped us develop our relationship. The trainers there want me to take her up to the agility classes because she's so drivey and I'm definitely going to try. I think that would be a ton of fun and it's something I was planning on doing with Mu also. Tipper was slated to be put to sleep in a small animal shelter because of overcrowding. Corgi Connection agreed to take her and found out she had roundworms and hookworms. She has been treated and now just needs to put on a little weight. ___________________________________________ |

Special listing: Daisy and Dolly - ADOPTED! Daisy and Dolly were adopted together!!!!! Daisy and Dolly are sisters that were surrendered from the same breeder as Sparky, Jackson and all the others. Luckily they were not pregnant at the time and don't have to worry about that any more. They were born Nov. 15, 2005 These 2 darlings were cared for by Clare and her family in the Fort Worth, TX area. They wanted the girls to stay together and they succeeded. This is what Clare had to say about Daisy and Dolly:
When we got them they were afraid of everything and not sure at all of how we would treat them. Now, they have really opened up, love attention, love giving kisses and just want you to pay attention to them. They... love kids and other dogs (although Daisy can be a little bossy towards other dogs). Our 2 year old daughter loves them and they haven't shown any aggression towards her. They are just wonderful dogs who deserve a happy home. They have been indoors most of the time, but do go outside to use the bathroom. These two girls do need to be adopted together. They have been through a lot and they depend on each other. Dolly is still guiding the way for Daisy! ______________________________________ |

Hailey - ADOPTED!
It took some time but a wonderful couple finally gave Hailey a chance and saw just what a great dog she is! Hailey seems to be enjoying her new home where she is the only dog and the center of attention.
Thank you to Faye and Billy for giving this girl a new life. The circumstances of her ending up in rescue were sad because she came from a family that had to give her up due to financial reasons. So we know she was loved. Through all the transition Hailey remained a very happy and loveable girl. She just seemed to take things in stride; her only requests - PLAY, chase things in the yard and be fed!

Cindy - Now Pie - ADOPTED!
Pie-Pie as she is often called now, was dumped in the country and found her way to a caring individual who contacted Corgi Connection to take her in to rescue. Pie found a great couple who have given her a furr-ever home along with their 2 other dogs. She has a nice fenced yard to play in and a doggie door to come in and out as she pleases. Pie's owners continue to find new and exciting things about this little girl. Her latest feat is overseeing renovations at their house. Here's the latest from her owners:
This dog is so damn cute! Even Greg can't stop snuggling on her. _______________________________________

Joel - Safe from the stray life
After being picked up as a stray, battling tapeworms and undergoing heartworm treatement Joel is now in a furr-ever home! Throughout his whole ordeal Joel remained loveable and eas-going. Joel's new family has taken him many places and he in turn has "trained" them to go for daily walks! Michlynn and Austin can't say enough about the newest addition to their family. Corgi Connection can't hear enough about him! ;) He will forever remain a special rescue of Corgi Connection. Best wishes to Joel and his new family. Keep up the good work Joel!

Chloe - From Missouri Stray to Colorado Safe!
Chloe didn't spend a long time in Corgi Connection's rescue. She was quickly adopted and is making her new home in Chloe spent a month of valuable puppy time in a shelter and has some making up to do which we're sure her "mom" will do. At just about 10 months of age, we're sure she'll make the best of it! Here what Chloe's new owner has to say about her: Chloe is doing great! Can't remember life before she came home. She sleeps with me on the bed each night. I took the dogs hiking this morning and she loves it. She runs with the bikers when they go by and I just have to wait for her to come back - which she always does. She tried to herd a few horses that were being ridden on the trail but eventually saw the futility in that :-)
Congratulations to Chloe and Christy!

Gunner - From Shelter to Family Dog Gunner came from a shelter in Western Kansas. He was quite a surprise when he arrived at Corgi Connection as he's quite the mix but has a great personality. After some time with great fosters, Gunner has been adopted by a terrific family with a boy, a girl and a cat. They report Gunner is doing well. He and the daughter are enrolled to take obedience classes. Way to go Gunner! __________________________________________

Percy (a.k.a. Peter) - Coming out of his shell! Here's the latest news on Percy: Just wanted to let you know that today, for the first time, Percy played with a squeaky ball!!! I was so proud of my little man. He has settled in very nicely at our home and loves hanging out with all my vet school friend's dogs. I have discovered a dog park in town at Fairmont park and he loves to go there and meet new friends! Peter was adopted through a rescue and for reasons unknown returned. Corgi Connection was asked to take the shy young dog and put him in foster-care. After some great fostering, Peter began to come around. While still a little shy, he has progressed. Here's what Peter's (Percy's) new owner had to say about him after his first day: He was pretty timid all day, only coming to us if we were sitting down on the floor with him and he doesn't seem that interested in any of the toys we got him. He ate his dinner at 7:30 and seemed perfectly content after that. So far we haven't found a treat he doesn't like. We went for a long walk around the neighborhood and he loved it! At bedtime I set up his crate, since you said that was how he was sleeping at the foster house and I thought he would be more comfortable that way. He is still not quite sure what to make of Thea (my cat) every time he lays down she will walk over to him and he will get up and move somewhere else. I think she has herded him around the whole house by now. LOL. That was another reason I put up the crate, I wanted him to have his own space so he could get some rest after his long stressful day. I gave him a bone to chew on and he loved it. When I got up this morning for feeding time at 7:30 he had chewed up a quarter of it already. This morning he seems much more comfortable. He and Thea have been running around the house playing together and he was rolling around on the floor giving himself a nice back scratch when we got back from our walk. I even got him to do a play bow while we ran around the back yard to get some energy out before the rain comes. This handsome boy's future looks bright! ______________________________ |

Ruby - now Roo - living large in Texas
March 2011: Unless there's an adoption in the immediate area, Corgi Connection of Kansas rarely gets to see the dogs it rescues after adoption. However this month CCK got to see one of its first rescues when Roo made the trip to Kansas and added to her familywith the adoption of Danny! We saw a much more confident little girl who has taken charge in her household according to owner, Alison. And what's even better is she now has another corgi in her family who was also a former puppy mill worker. Roo can show Danny what it's like to be a pet and not a piece of property! Ruby was one of Corgi Connection's first rescues and the word rescue really fits her story. She was taken from an unlicensed breeder in Missouri and made her way to Kansas with Corgi Connection in November 2009. She was placed with a terrific foster who spent countless hours working with Ruby. Even at a young age we believe Ruby had been bred because of her petite size (17-18 pounds) and spent most of her life in a wire crate. She was terrified of EVERYTHING! She would of much preferred to have spent her day in a crate with no interaction. Slowly with the work of her fosters Ruby's personality began to immerge. After staying with her first foster mom for almost 4 months we felt is was time for Ruby to be around other pets and learn how to behave like a dog. Two more months and we finally felt Ruby was ready to be permanently placed. Ruby now makes her home in Texas with a Papillion-mix and Corgi-mix. We couldn't be more proud of Ruby's progress and only expect her to continue on her journey as she recovers from her early experiences. This is what Ruby's new family has to say about her:
she is most DEFINITELY a cuddler. she takes every opportunity she can find to crawl onto my lap for rubs and snuggles. ______________________________________________

Sadie - Special Needs in a Special Home Now Sadie was adopted by a woman who has corgi experienced. We hope they are settling in with each other well. In May I was contacted about a female pem found as a stray in the Kansas City area. Sadie was in quite poor shape and of course no one came forward to claim her. It turns out she has congestive heart failure ; some arthritis and perhaps some mild hearing and vision problems. Her medical care was paid for but Corgi Connection was unable to take her in to its rescue. Carla who lives in the Kansas City area took her as her own. Well Carla's job is changing and she is going to be on the road quite a bit and in and out of hotels. Sadie needs a home and soon! Sadie is far from dead but does need care. This is what Carla has to say about her:
She is a peppy little thing....with her arthritis she hops when she gets excited, wants to play, run or get your attention to go outside. She does go up and down the steps a few times a day, but I give her a helping hand 50% of the time. She is on medication for her heart. ____________________________________ |

Max
Max along with a female corig was turned in to a shelter Columbus, KS. The shelter was told by the owners they were moving and couldn't take their pets. The female was rescued quickly, but Max stayed for some time before finally making it to Corgi Connection. When he arrived he was timid, untrained and showed very little emotion. CCK suspects Max was left outside his whole life only to be bred occasionally and only given little if any affection. After more than 3 months in foster care; a little bit of Max's personality began to emerge. It was subtle but so sweet. Even his meek personalilty and lack of training didn't deter his forever family from wanting him to join their home in Durham, N.C. Getting Max to his forever home was a lot more difficult than getting him out of the shelter howevr.
Due to poor weather and airline complications this spring, Max had 2 flight cancellations. Determined to bring this sweet boy home, his adopters flew to St. Louis, MO., where Corgi Connection met them and off they went in a rented car headed back to North Carolina. Max is reported to be adjusting well and getting used to his new buddy - Teddy - a collie-corgi-mix. |

Stanley - My Middle Name is "Whatta Cutie!"
Stanley was picked up as a stray in Missouri and brought to a "less than ideal" animal shelter. He was listed on Petfinder as a "Fluffy Corgi," but to be quite honest, we don't know what Stanley is except contagious. Everywhere he goes people just LOVE this little guy who's always smiling and ready for your attention. Stanley's pictures from the animal shelter showed a depressed-looking timid little guy. Once we pulled him from the shelter and got him in to Corgi Connection, there was a visible difference in his looks. Stanley needed some veterinarian services and thanks to Corgi Aid we were able to get everything done for him we needed. Before we couldn't even get Stanley listed for adoption we had inquiries about him from his picture on CorgiAid. He was an immediate favorite. Corgi Connection selected a wonderful couple in Madison, WI., to adopt him. They had recently lost their Corgi, Gwennie and we feel Stanley has helped fill the void in their hearts. Adopting a dog sight-unseen can be scarey, but this couple just knew Stanley would fit in their lives; so much so they drove from Madison to Corgi Connection to meet Stanley and take him home! Here's the latest from Stanley's family: "Last night he “graduated” from beginning training. He did a very good job as he is very food motivated. He also endeared himself to everyone, both human and canine. One night, one of the “parents” scooped him up and pretended to sneak out the door with him. We also hosted our gourmet group last Saturday and he was a perfect gentleman the entire time. One couple, who lost their elderly Brittany about the same time we lost our Gwennie, has volunteered to keep Stanley when we travel. I thanked them for their offer and reminded them they will have to give him back when we return! We’re really having a lot of fun with Stanley. Thank you for saving him for us." ________________________________________________ |

Penny - From Country Stray to East Coast Girl
Penny's story starts in Western Nebraska and gets a second start in Massachusetts after a stay in Kansas. There was A LOT of interest in Penny. She has a contagious personalilty and just about the cutest looks anyone could want in a Corgi along with being so petite. Corgi Connection was contacted by another rescuer about a Corgi that a family in Western Nebraska had taken in but couldn't find an owner for. Other rescues were full and the family couldn't keep her. Inquiries about Penny were bountiful. However, a couple in Bellerica, Mass. seemed the most determined to add this young girl to their family. Having recently lost a Corgi, their male Corgi, Clyde, seemed to be lonely and they missed having 2 Corgis. After much talking back and forth, Corgi Connection was able to arrange for a home visit by a fellow rescuer in the area and Penny's new family was approved for adoption. Her travels to the Boston area weren't smooth by any means but life for this little stray has been paved since with a loving family and a Corgi buddy! Here's the latest Penny's family has to say about her: She is doing great. She is such a lover dog, but still has a little wild streak in her. We think that when she was rescued, she was probably only 7 or 8 months old. She loves to run and just loves other dogs, (people too!) Right now she is laying at my feet. The closer the better! She has put on weight, filled out nicely. It took awhile, but she looks great. We think she has grown as well, that's why we think she was quite young when she came to live with us. Clyde loves her and she him. They are best pals. The best thing we did for Clyde was to bring Penny into our lives. |

Norm - now known as Einstein "Ein"
Another stray finds a wonderful home story sums it up for Norman. That's right, this beautiful boy was picked up as a stray in Kansas and taken to a vet clinic which also serves as the "shelter" for the county. No one every came forward to claim him so Corgi Connection took him in and put him in foster care with a terrific couple who have a corgi-mix, Daisy. Norman wasn't house-trained and didn't know how to play much with other dogs, but Daisy quickly helped out with that and his fosters worked on the house-training part. Norman was re-named Ein and this is what is new family reports about him: "Ein is doing wonderful. He plays with the dachshund all the time, they are best buds. She can’t get underneath him like she does to the taller dogs so it’s more of a fair ‘fight.’ He really wants to please us and sometimes gets nervous if he isn’t given instruction. He calms right down if you show him where to sit or lay though. He’s incredible with learning tricks. He’s got sit, stay, lay down, & up down pat. We’re working on play dead. He’s just a pleasure to be around - always happy, usually smiling. He settles into his crate at night. We’ve actually been leaving him out when we go on short errands. He hasn’t gotten into anything he isn’t allowed. Although, we came home this weekend to find him on the back of the couch, wagging his stub/butt as though that is the normal place for a dog to hang out. We’ve been walking more and playing out doors since the weather is finally getting nice. " Way to go Ein! ________________________________________________ |

Hendrix - formerly Beau
A call from the State of Kansas brought Hendrix (formerly known as Beau) to Corgi Connection. Hendrix was taken from a breeder. He was timid and you could tell he hadn't been given a lot of attention as the bottom picture shows. Corgi Connection was lucky to be contacted by Nick and Erin who had been reading up about corgis and wanted to know about adopting Hendrix. It started out to be a foster situation but it didn't take them long to fall in love with the little guy. Hendrix was joined by a Corgi Connection brother in the fallof 2010 - Boomer. The two are great buds and keep Nick and ERin on their toes. All and all we have been very happy with the transition from one to two dogs. Having two dogs has been a lot of fun. We look forward to getting together again with you this summer to show them off to everybody Hendrix learned about going outside to do his "business" and going for walks and that people aren't too scarey. He loves other dogs and likes to visit friends. He continues to gain confidence and become more corgi-like as he appears in the second picture.
Keep up the good work Nick and Erin! You too Hendrix.

Scotty
Scotty was one of Corgi Connection's first rescues and adoptions so he will always hold a special place in our heart. Scotty, who is a little older, about 5 when we got him, was turned in by his owner for "issues." Well, he did have a few issues but one of our great foster homes was able to work on those issues and improve his attitude. As long as Scotty is fetching a ball he is perfectly happy! But he did learn to cuddle a little with his foster mom and really does enjoy "his people." Scotty was adopted by a young couple in the Cleveland area. Getting him there was our first out of state adoption. After 2+ days in a semi-trailer with some other rescues, Scotty arrived safely. It took him some time to adjust but after 6 months this is what his family has to say: "Scotty is doing fine...he acts as if he is 2 years old...he has so much energy." Keep up the good work Scotty!

Tank
Tank, appropriately named, was given up by his owner who had come across some difficult times and was not able to give Tank the attention he needed. It was a loving gesture and very difficult at the same time. Tank made his way to Corgi Connection and into a foster home where he was not immediately welcomed by the resident Corgi, Tucker, but eventually won the hearts of everyone in the family including Tucker. Tank is now a permanent member of the family. Corgi Connection of Kansas sat down with Tank for an interview about his life now. CCK: What are your pet peeves? Tank: YOU KNOW I REALLY HATE IT WHEN MY CORGI PAL, TUCKER, TRIES TO HERD ME ON THE WAY OUT FOR MY FIRST PIT STOP OF THE MORNING...GEEEZ! CCK: Which celebrity are you most like? Tank: DEFINITELY PAUL NEWMAN. MANLY, HANDSOME (DID I MENTION BIG BEAUTIFUL EYES?), AND I DON'T MIND SAYING I HAVE QUITE A WAY WITH THE LADIES (ESPECIALLY THE 2-LEGGED ONES) CCK: What is your favorite food? Tank: I HAVE TO SAY I'M NOT REALLY A PICKY GUY WHEN IT COMES TO EATING...JUST ABOUT ANYTHING FROM THE FOUR FOOD GROUPS THAT HOLDS STILL LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET A TASTE. SINCE MOVING IN WITH MY NEW FAMILY, I HAVE DEVELOPED SOME RATHER EXOTIC TASTES DUE TO OUR WALKS IN THE WOODS...IT'S JUST A TOUGH CHOICE WHETHER TO EXECUTE A DROP AND ROLE OR EAT THOSE TURKEY DROPPING DELICACIES! CCK: How do you rate the following? One being worst. a) Butt rub b) Ear rub c) walk with your person d) romp in the backyard Tank: IF YOU KNOW CORGIS AT ALL, YOU KNOW THERE ARE NO "WORST" ANSWERS ON YOUR LIST, I MEAN, REALLY!!! I WOULD HAVE TO USE THE FOLLOWING ORDER WITH THE BEST SAVED FOR LAST: A) I CAN TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT WITH BUTT RUBS C) I LOVE WALKS WITH MY PEOPLE AND I EVEN GET TO DO SOME WITHOUT A LEASH!!!! D) OUR BACK YARD IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF MY WORLD (HAVE I TALKED ABOUT SQUIRRELS YET?) AND TUCKER AND I KEEP A TIGHT CONTROL ON WHO AND WHAT ENTERS IT (DID I MENTION SQUIRRELS?). WE ARE VIGILANT IN OUR PATROLS AND CONDUCT THEM AS OFTEN AS MOM WILL LET US OUT THE BACK DOOR. WE ALSO HAVE A NEAT PLACE IN THE BACKYARD THAT MOM CALLS A COMPOST PILE (NEVER SAW SUCH A THING BEFORE) AND SOMETIMES I CAN SNEAK A SUCCULENT EGG SHELL OUT OF IT TO EAT. WE ALSO HAVE THESE THINGS THAT MOM CALLS BIRD FEEDERS, BUT TUCK AND I KNOW THEY ARE REALLY PUT THERE TO BRING SQUIRRELS INTO THE YARD FOR US TO CHASE. WE BOTH CONSIDER CHASING SQUIRRELS A VERY IMPORTANT CORGI JOB AND I MUST SAY WE HAVE DEVELOPED INTO QUITE A TEAM! B) I NEED EAR RUBS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY...ACTUALLY I THINK THEY SHOULD HAPPEN WHENEVER MY PEOPLE SIT STILL LONG ENOUGH TO REACH DOWN AND GIVE ME ONE. THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF EVERYONE (NO MATTER HOW MANY LEGS THEY WALK ON) GOT EAR RUBS FROM SOMEONE THEY LOVE!!! CCK: If you could pick your family, what would they be like? Tank: THEY WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT I WANT TO LOVE AND BE LOVED. THEY WOULD TAKE ME FOR WALKS AND RIDES IN THE CAR AND LET ME PLAY OUTSIDE A LOT . THEY WOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO HAVE A COUCH FOR ME TO LAY ON AND SNUGGLE WITH THEM ON AND GET LOTS OF LOVIES AND EAR RUBS. COUCHES RULE! THEY WOULD GIVE ME A GOOD SQUARE MEAL A DAY, PLENTY OF DOGGIE TREATS AND BE WEAK ENOUGH THAT OCCASSIONALLY WHEN I GIVE THEM SOULFUL LOOKS WITH MY BIG BEAUTIFUL EYES, THEY GIVE ME A TASTE OF WHAT THEY ARE EATING (TUCKER AND I ARE ALSO PRETTY GOOD AT TEAMING UP FOR THIS TASK, TOO). CCK: Do you like riding in the car? If so, where do you like to go? Tank: DOES THE SUN COME UP IN THE MORNING?!?! OF COURSE I LIKE RIDING IN THE CAR!!!! TUCKER AND I GET TO RIDE WITH MOM IN THE CAR AND DAD IN THE TRUCK. WE REALLY LIKE TO RIDE WITH DAD TO THE RECYCLING CENTER ON THE WEEK-ENDS AND MOM TAKES US TO THE POST OFFICE AND THE LIBRARY AND THESE NEAT PLACES CALLED PARKS WHERE WE GET TO GET OUT AND TAKE WALKS...YEAH! CCK: What is your take on other four legged creatures? Tank: UMMMMM...CAN I BE PERFECTLY FRANK WITH YOU? THERE ARE "OTHER FOUR LEGGED CRITTERS" AND THEN THERE ARE O-T-H-E-R FOUR LEGGED CRITTERS. THE ONES THEY CALL CATS ARE TO BE TOLERATED AND, WHENEVER POSSIBLE, SNIFFED UNDER THEIR TAILS UNTIL THEY WALK ON THEIR TIPTOES (TEE-HEE) BUT WATCH OUT FOR THEIR CLAWS! SQUIRRELS, MICE, RATS, MOLES ETC. ARE TO BE CHASED (DON'T BE AFRAID TO DIG DEEP IN THE BACKYARD IF NECESSARY, MOM WILL FILL UP THE HOLES) AND DISPATCHED QUICKLY IF CAUGHT, THEN BROUGHT TO THE BACK DOOR OF YOUR HOUSE FOR HUMAN PRAISE AND ADORATION. BIG FOUR LEGGED CREATURES LIKE COWS AND HORSES ARE TO BE HERDED, BUT ONLY WHEN A HUMAN SAYS YOU CAN (OTHERWISE, YOU CAN GET IN BIG TROUBLE AND MISS YOUR SNACKS). AS FOR THE CREATURES CALLED DOGS (AS OPPOSED TO CORGIS)THEY CAN BE GREAT PALS AND FUN TO PLAY WITH, BUT NOTHING BEATS ANOTHER CORGI WHO UNDERSTANDS HOW TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD FRAP!!!! _________________________________________________ |

Ray-Ray
Ray came to Corgi Connection through a shelter where he was turned in as a stray. No one claimed him which is hard to believe. He developed kennel cough which turned in to pneumonia and spent several days in the "hospital." The shelter was not able to pay for his treatment so Corgi Connection committed to seeing him through his illness.
Here's a little more about Ray and his life now in his own words: My name is Ray. My mom also calls me RayRay and Bear. I pretty much listen to her whenever she has cookies or a ball. I like to chase that ball. I live with my brothers and sisters in a nice house with lots of things to do. My little sister Macy and my big brothers Mac and Tucker are Corgis like me. Mom says that Mac and I look just alike but I don't see it. I am much more handsome than him. My big sister Emily is a Lab which is a tall dog with this thing called a tail. I play with them all them time. We like to play ball and chase each other in the backyard. When I get tired I can get on the couch and sleep. I like to dig in the trash cans for paper but mom says that is yucky. My mom takes me in the car and we get to go on walks. Sometimes I get to go by myself but most of the time either Mac or Macy gets to go too. I got to go mom is coming home soon and then we get to eat dinner and play ball outside. Maybe this time I will get the ball before Macy.
