Bonnie

Bonnie is ready for her furr-ever home. She will need some ongoing care as it appears she has allergies but they are being controlled with medication. We don't know if they are seasonal or will require year-round treatment.

While Bonnie does ok with other dogs, she would probably do best as an only dog. She just kind of prefers to be the center of attention.

This sweet girl came to us June 5 from a shelter in western Kansas where she was picked up as a stray. Sorry for the graphic pictures, but Bonnie came to CCK in horrible condition. She wreaked of

infection and filth and it didn't take long to determine why.

Bonnie literally had a mouth full of rotten teeth, her under-body was covered in sores, she had discharge from her nose and eyes and was running a temperature of 104.5. Our local veterinarian immediately put her on antibiotics over the weekend which dropped her temp to normal and they were able to look at her teeth on Monday. All but 5 of Bonnie's teeth had to be extracted! She must of been in horrible pain from all the infection. Once her mouth heals she will eventually, actually be able to eat dry kibble if that's what we chose to feed her. For right now she's getting spoiled with canned food and has been eating.

The sores on her underside are hot spots where she has been licking relentlessly. They could be due to allergies or even from being in pain. So after her dental work the veterinary clinic is addressing the hot spots and giving her a good bath along with a grooming. Her eyes have already cleared up some but we will continue to monitor those.

Despite all of those issues and undergoing, poking, prodding and treatments, Bonnie remained sweet as can be. Of course we won't know her real personality until she feels more like 100% and we get her in to her foster home. We have NO idea about her age because of the condition of her teeth. We may be able to give somewhat of an estimate once she is healed. Her face doesn't show a lot of graying/white but we're just not going to be able to give a very exact estimate on age.

The good news about Bonnie besides being so sweet is she tested negative for heart-worms and other parasites. She will be brought up to date on vaccinations and put on preventative. We believe she is already spayed.

Check back to this page and we will try to update Bonnie's progress.

UPDATE 7-8-15: Bonnie is healed from having all but 5 teeth removed. She is now eating semi-soft food and can take small pieces of bisuits. She had 2 lumps on her underside removed 2 weeks ago. They were tested and came back as nothing but fatty tumors. Her skin is healing up and fur is growing back. She does well with most all dogs but would also be a great only dog. She is house-trained and will stay in a crate. She's not crazy about hot weather and doesn't particular enjoy going for walks when it's very hot but cooler days seems to perk her up considerably.

We really have now way of determining Bonnie's age because the condition of her teeth could of been due to poor diet, genetics or age. Our best guessitimate is that she is 8-10 years old. She is a spunky little gal either way and loves attention.

Bonnie is ready for a furr-ever home. Her adoption fee is $225.
