Lizzie

Ready for her furr-ever home!

Lizzie is an adorable 3-year old corgi that proved to be too much for her older owner to handle in addition to having another dog in the house. Lizzie is a pretty typical female corgi; bossy and vocal. She is currently in foster care with 4 other corgis and doing well, but you can tell she would like to be in charge or at the very least, have her "humom" to herself.

Unfortunately, Lizzie's short life has had some issues. Last fall she apparently got in an altercation with the other dog in the house and suffered a bite wound. We do not know the circumstances of the disagreement except that Lizzie had a disliking for the other dog in the house, which was larger than her. In March, Lizzie's right front paw was broken by circumstances CCK has not been able to sort out. We were only told she was gated off in a room with the other dog in the house and when the owner returned Lizzie was limping.

The paw is bothersome to Lizzie and CCK is going to have her examined at Kansas State University to determine if something can and should be done to help alleviate her discomfort. Preliminary x-rays show that it has not healed. The paw does NOT slow Lizzie down in the least however. At just 3 years of age, she is full of energy, but she does limp and it does worsen if she's been particularly active. She is somewhat overweight which doesn't help either and so she is on a diet. Overall she is a fun, silly corgi who doesn't seem to be wary of anyone.

UPDATE 7-8-15: Lizzie had surgery at Kansas State University in late June. The decision was made to remove the entire toe where the bones had been broke because they had not healed. She still has a few more days to wear the cone to keep her from licking the surgical site but she is doing well. She still walks with a bit of a limp, which the are is still tender and she is still adjusting to her new paw. She is not inhibited in any way however.

She is current on vaccinations, is heart-worm negative and is micro-chipped. Her adoption fee will be $275.

Lizzie is house-trained; she is not fond of being crated except at night if she's in the same room with someone. She does fine free-reign in the house when no one is home but should not be expected to go 8 hours without a break.

She is curious about cats but doesn't seem like she would be aggressive and loves to go on walks. Her recall is "selective," meaning if she sees or smells something that sparks her interest, she will not come back to you. We will be working on that. Her previous owners kept her shaved and CCK will not continue that practice as it is not advised for corgis.
